Objective: The objective of the "South-North Dialogue" is to elaborate concrete recommendations for future negotiations. These shall be compatible with the specific needs of politicians in the next few years and shall also be embedded in a long-term framework built upon the principles of "equity", "adequacy" and "development".
Project Description: Fourteen climate researchers from all world regions have designed “A Proposal for an Adequate and Equitable Climate Agreement” . The proposal outlines equitable approaches to mitigation – including both deep emission cuts in the North, and differentiated mitigation commitments for four groups of developing countries. It further contains recommendations for adaptation policy to address the needs of the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. And finally, it outlines a leadership strategy that could pave the way for such an agreement.

In a second phase of the project, the proposal will be further refined and emissions allowances quantified. It will be discussed at several international workshops.
