| Title: | Climate of Trust: the Kyoto Protocol and Beyond |
| Coordinating Institutions: | WRI (World Resources Institute) (Link to Process) |
| Objective: | Climate of Trust is a solution-oriented collaboration of institutions from around the world that was initiated in 2001. The aim of this initiative is to bridge the North-South divide on climate change. |
| Project Description: | The project's examines proposals for "global participation" in climate change negotiations, which entails involving all countries of the world in efforts to protect the climate. The North today has greater resources to confront climate change and is often better prepared for climate negotiations than the South, a situation which marginalizes the voice of developing countries in climate change dialogue. A fair and effective climate regime must incorporate more active participation from developing country governments and civil society. Climate change is a global issue requiring a truly global response, a response that addresses the interests of the many and not merely the few. In October 2002, WRI released the results of this research in "Building on the Kyoto Protocol: Options for Protecting the Climate". |
